SR:
Knapman, Arthur, Private, 1780, Yorkshire Regiment
Enlisted at Derby 18th September 1915 aged 37
Stated his place of residence as 43, Clarence Road, Derby
Employed as a clothier’s assistant
5 feet 5 inches in height
Next of kin, his father William Knapman, of 4, Frederick Terrace, Dawlish, Devon
Served abroad from the 2nd January 1917

He married a Nora Burrows in the winter of 1916 who, after his death, was found to be eligible for a War Widows Pension. He was discharged from the Army in 1919 and died at home on 22 February 1920 of interstitial nephritis and Ureamia (kidney failure). He spent much of his army career in Depot duties which often indicates a man of poorgeneral health. He is buried at Nottingham Road Cemetery, Derby (SectionB7 Grave 23097) but his grave is not marked with a headstone. This section is a wooded area in which individual grave locations are not recorded so it is impossible to say with any accuracy where he lies. Whilst he was entitled to both the Victory and British War Medals neither was ever claimed.
